| Running wild and Week 6 highlights
This week was an especially strong one for area running backs, as 11 ran for over 200 yards. Four of them ran for 300 yards or better led by Horace Gibson's 374-yard performance in a 44-28 win over Klein Collins.
Here are the other big time performers:
Best performance not to make it as an athlete of the week nominee
Quentin Castille, La Porte - He's not the first guy that comes to mind when you think about guys who can run for 300 yards. He's not especially fast (4.6 40) and he's a big guy (6-1, 234) with an upright running style.
But he did just that - carrying the ball 11 times for 300 yards and 4 TDs in a 55-7 win over Pasadena. That's an average of 27.2 yards per carry. His touchdowns went for 6, 45, 74 and 71 yards.
Best usual suspect
Sam McGuffie, Cy-Fair - For the second time this season, McGuffie broke the 200-yard mark. He has hovered close to it in most of Cy-Fair's other games, consistently running between 150-190 yards. McGuffie finished with 277 yards on 28 carries and a career-high five touchdowns in a 42-14 win over Langham Creek.
Best performance in a time of need
Aaron Herrera, Foster - The Falcons had yet to win a game coming into Week 6 but Herrera ensured that they got off the schneid by carrying the ball 31 times for 218 yards and 2 TD in a 27-20 win over Seven Lakes.
Least surprising big performance
Jacquizz Rodgers, Lamar Consolidated - He made running for 200 yards almost a weekly occurrence in 2005. Despite teams paying more attention to him, Rodgers has still managed to compile big numbers like in the Mustangs' 57-0 win over Bay City in which the junior tailback ran for 212 yards and 5 TD on 25 carries. Rodgers leads all area players in touchdowns, with 20.
Almost, but not quite
Two players came oh-so-close to 200 this week but didn't quite make it:
Chris Thomas, Huntsville - Just like his Hornets, Thomas was really close but didn't quite get there. The tailback ended his night with 199 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries as Huntsville lost to Waller in overtime 43-42.
Taylor Weaver, Houston Christian - Weaver continued to add to his big season by running for 197 yards and 2 TD on 15 carries in Houston Christian's 57-6 win over Lutheran North.
The remaining 200+ yard performances, which you saw in High School Week in Review...
Anthony Connor, MacArthur - 37 carries, 209 yards, TD in 21-10 win over Memorial
Reginald Dotson, Willowridge - 16 carries, 346 yards, 4 TD in 47-27 win over Bush
Willis Jackson, Reagan - 28 carries, 238 yards and 2 TD in a 28-14 win over Waltrip.
Colton Johnson, Waller - 36 carries, 283 yards, 4 TD in 43-42 overtime win over Huntsville.
Thadeus Wilkerson, Needville - 27 carries, 323 yards, 4 TD in 33-18 win over Sealy.
Albert Williams, Beaumont West Brook - 14 carries, 292 yards, 2 TD in 40-28 win over Baytown Lee

Bang for the buck
Klein Oak grounded up 371 rushing yards in its 51-14 win over Tomball, but all those yards came on just 34 carries.
Osaam Cook had the most impressive performance, gaining 152 yards on just four carries - an average of 38 yards a pop. He scored two touchdowns, both from 74 yards out.
Receiver Desean Hales had another big day, returning a punt 66 yards for a score. In all, the Panthers picked up 588 total yards (rushing, passing and returning) and averaged 12.25 yards per touch.
Triple your pleasure
Deer Park rolled up nearly 400 yards rushing in its 34-24 win over Dobie with the yards coming primarily from three guys - Jofer Onyechi (177), Chad Littlejohn (111) and James Castillo (104).
