The Marlins had great field position early in the second quarter after defensive back Courtney Johnson returned a punt 17 yards to the Westside 31. Madison took nine plays but eventually got in the end zone on a 2-yard run by quarterback Jeffrey Lewis to take the 6-0 lead.

After both teams exchanged punts on their next possessions, Westside took over with 1:06 remaining in the half and displayed some great time management to get inside the Madison 10 with two seconds remaining. The drive went 11 plays and covered 74 yards but the final play of the drive, an end around by Alonzo Adams, Madison linebacker Adrian Jackson sniffed out the play and tackled Adams for a 2-yard loss as the second quarter expired.
