| Cy Fair takes Game 1 against Westside
Jersey Village hosted the Cy Fair Bobcats and the Westside Wolves in Game 1 of the area playoffs. Both teams are coming off shut out games, Westside beating Nimitz 10-0 and Cy Fair taking down Mayde Creek with a 2-0 win.
A homerun started the first inning with Robbie Grossman setting the tone, knocking the ball over the right center field fence. The runs kept coming with Cameron Goff hitting a grounder down first base getting Caleb Ramsey in followed by a sac-fly RBI getting the Bobcats third run. Westside had trouble following Cy Fair’s rally with their first three batters producing three outs. Cy Fair closed the inning and kept the score at 3-0 entering the third.
The third inning saw more runs from the Bobcats but the scoring came from wild pitches and with the bases loaded two Bobcats were able to get an easy run. In the bottom of the third Westside’s Dan Schmalhausen hit a single to center field and worked his way around the bases. With another wild pitch now from Cy Fair, Schmalhausen crossed home plate and got the Wolves first run. The inning closed with Cy Fair leading 5-1.
Westside brought in a new pitcher in the fourth, Corey Triche slowed the Bobcats down and great fielding by both teams kept the score at 5-1 going into the fifth.
Once again in the fifth Cy Fair connected with the ball. Goff hit a triple to center field and was knocked in by Michael Poulos on his double. With a walk to load the bases and no outs on the board, Poulos was hit in off a pop fly out. Westside’s center fielder, Schmalhausen held the Bobcats on the bases with a diving catch and the inning ended with a score of 7-1.
In the sixth inning the Wolves fielding held off the Bobcats and put them back up to bat. The starting pitcher, Taylor Wall connected with the ball and hit in Michael Goodnight. With the Wolves now having two runs Cy Fair’s pitcher, Thomas Collier ended the inning with a strike out and kicked off the last inning.
The seventh saw one more run by Cy Fair. Zach Thomas’ hit a center field double and then was hit in by a short hit down the third base line. The Wolves were unable to catch up in the bottom and the game ended with a Bobcat win and a final score of 8-2.
