Westside QB decides to go the baseball route

Westside quarterback Michael Goodnight is highly ranked amongst Greater Houston’s top signal callers. But, he is also a standout third basemen for the Wolves baseball team. When it came down to recruiting, he had to make a choice. TPI caught up the multi-sport athlete to see how he felt about his decision.

Last season Westside quarterback Michael Goodnight proved that he belongs with the elite in Houston. Standing at 6-4 and weighing in at 205 pounds, Michael Goodnight threw for 2,125 yards and 20 touchdowns. But in the end, he had to choose between football or baseball.

He recently came to a conclusion on his future athletic career.

“I came to a decision and I committed to Houston for baseball,” Michael Goodnight, who also plays third basemen said. “I didn’t have any official offers for football, but I still received some interest.”

Michael Goodnight said he was getting calls from Texas State, Fresno State, and Utah for football. So, is he still considering a college football career as an option?

“Something would have to drastically happen for me to change my mind,” Michael Goodnight said.

He was one of the driving forces who helped the Westside baseball team to the Area playoff round. The team posted a 27-6 record before falling to the eventual state champions Cy Fair. Michael Goodnight had a strong batting average and posted a 5-2 season record as a pitcher and had 43 strikeouts.

He solidified his towards the end of the interview to make sure everyone knew his position on his decision to choose the sport, as well as the school.

“I am solid on my decision,” Michael Goodnight said. “I am not one to give my word and back out. So that (Houston) is where I am going.”
