20-5A Game Predictions and previews

OVERVIEW: Madison vs Yates is a fun matchup of teams that have been tradition HISD powers. Meanwhile the best game is Brenham vs Lamar, if you love football you should be at this game because their is some serious talent on both sides of the ball in this one. Other games of note are Chavez vs St. Thomas, both teams have gotten off to a slow start and both are solid clubs. Westbury vs Worthing will be good also with Westbury showing some nice moves in a loss last week. Last game to be mentioned for now is Westside vs Conroe, Westside destroyed Texas City last week so the question is are they for real. Conroe is better than what most give them credit for, we will find out.

Sam Houston vs Reagan- Sam Housotn has scored six points in the last 11 games, this program is trying to right itself after the problems of the past couple of seasons. Reagan should win this one easily and perhaps pitch a shut out against Sam Houston. Still we would like to see the Tigers get some positve news and put some points on the board. Reagan by 28

Chavez vs St. Thomas- St. Thomas got rocked last week by Bellaire Episcopal, they have no answer to the three D1 fullbacks that BE threw at them, most teams would not. Still they got taken out of the game early and never found their rhythm. Chavez is a better overall team than Bellaire Episcopal and they can be dangerous because of their overall talent. St. Thomas can't matchup on the line with players like Mike Brockers and Jarvis Smith, so they will have to use schemes on offense to keep those two out of the backfield. Chavez won't be able to physically abuse St. Thomas like Bellaire did with their fullbacks, so St. Thomas needs to get in their early and show that they can fight in the trenches with the bigger Chavez team. This is still a big uphill battle for them, look for them to play better but still lose. Chavez by 14

Brenham vs Lamar- Brenham is obviously a very good football team but unfortunately this is a very tough part of their schedule. The one good thing is that they get the Redskins at home so that makes an upset that much easier. Lamar just looks too good right now for me to say the upset will happen. Houston Lamar by 12

Madison vs Yates- Madison is off to a 1 and 1 start with a loss to Pearland where they got shut out. Yates beat Willowridge barely in a tough grudge match. Now these two face each other. On paper this should not be a game, Yates has the talent to go 2-3 games deep in the playoffs while Madison's talent level might make the playoffs. Yates needs to take Madison out of it quickly otherwise they will start gaining confidence and this grudge match could get interesting. Yates by 21

Westbury vs Worthing- Westbury has some talent on the team and their quarterback, Oliver, can run and get the ball downfield. However I am not sure Worthing can slow them down, they will have to do better thant hey did against Brenham. Westbury is not Brenham but they still have some dangerous weapons on offense. Worthing needs to attack that Westbury defense and don't give them time to set up or make shifts. Westbury by 10

wEstside vs Conroe - - Conroe has done very well in their non-district games the past few seaons and their coming off a win over MacArthur. RB Greenwood is showing he is for real! Westside is coming off their bye week. In Week 1 they blew out Texas City. QB Michael Goodnight may be going straight baseball in college, but he is a very good HS quarterback for now! Conroe by 4.

Caney Creek vs Bellaire- Caney Creek should have won the game vs 5A Oak Ridge and they know they can compete at the 5A level. Bellaire is not quite what they used to be and I look or Coach Hill to get Caney Creek over the top at this one, but it wont be easy on the road. Caney Creek by 3.

Pasadena High vs Milby- Milby has come out strong with their rushing offense and still managing nearly 100 yards passing so far. Their defense has been lacking this year, Pasadena's offense got off to a slow start but their defense has held up in the first game. Milby in a slight upset by 7
