Wolves Crowned Pasadena Tourney Champs

Westside marched their way to the championship title of the 2007 Pasadena Baseball Tourney with impressive victories over Pasadena Sam Rayburn HS (16 to 1); Alief Taylor (11 - 0); Houston Davis (12 to 1), and the championship game Pasadena Dobie (4 to 2).

The championship game was on a cold , windy Saturday night, March 3rd, where the WHS Wolves beat the Dobie Longhorns 4 to 2 and increased their season record to 9 and 1. This game featured good pitching by both teams as Dobie actually out-hit the Wolves by 6 to 3 but the Wolves took advantage of a 4 run 2nd inning to take the lead and then held off Dobie for the victory. The key hits for the Wolves were provided by seniors Zach Cohen (2 RBI) and Brian Kovar (1 RBI) plus a well executed squeeze bunt by soph Michael Falcone produced another RBI. The pitching was strong as 3 Wolves combined for 16 strikeouts and the defense was solid with only one 2 base throwing error.

The complete Wolves batting order for the Championship Game against Dobie, positions and offensive production were as follows:

1. Zach Cohen CF/LF - 1 for 3, 2 RBI

2. Freddy Villalobos 2B - 0 for 1, BB, Sac. Bunt

3. Travis Jackson 1B - 0 for 2, BB

4. Michael Goodnight 3B/P - 1 for 3

5. Taylor Wall RF/P - 0 for 3, ROE, RS

6. Brian Kovar LF/RF - 1 for 3, double, RBI, RS

7. Brad Holly DH (for Cory Maltz C) - 0 for 2, HBP, RS

8. Corey Triche P/CF - 0 for 1, BB, reached on FC, RS

Brett Zieren 3B - 0 for 1

9. Michael Falcone SS - 0 for 2, Sac. Bunt, RBI

The Wolves pitching results were as follows:
